One of the main problems in getting to or from the Museum Campus is that traffic often snarls at the intersections of McFetridge, Lake Shore Drive, Columbus, and Roosevelt, which is the only practical way from downtown into the area. There is also the lightly used Waldron Drive, though, which only serves the northbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive. Waldron is four lanes; if two lanes could be elevated over Lake Shore Drive and the Metra tracks and connected with 16th Street in the South Loop, that would relieve the pressure of Museum Campus-bound traffic coming to or from McFetridge.
South Loop residents might worry about extra traffic, but a two-lane road wouldn't add many extra cars to their neighborhood. It could also be gated, and only used by taxis, buses, and emergency vehicles to bypass McFetridge and Lake Shore, or as a one-way road eastbound (before special events at Soldier Field) or westbound (after events).
