Within the park, logically at the downriver side of the park -- which is on the edge of the New French Village established in the 1790s and the origins of Anglo Peoria -- I urge the development of permanent exhibits depicting the history of the settlement of the riverfront, including: the Native American tribes present in the immediate region; the New French Village; Fort Clark (1813); and the arrival of the first Anglo settlers in 1819, who would form American Peoria.

Downstate Illinois has an incredible story to tell that is sadly largely unknown to all but a few people. Inexpensive signage along the Peoria Lake that links to the story of native americans, the very early French exploration of North America and the arrival of the Anglo soldiers and settlers would be an easy first step in helping Peoria history come alive.
