First, parking requirements are a disincentive to new development, especially when compared to suburban sites where the cost of providing parking is relatively low. Second, when people come and go from a parking lot on site, the building shares much less of its activity with the surrounding streets. Third, it is simply unnecessary, given the existing parking and the untapped opportunities for expanding convenient on-street parking.

Money spent by developers should be put towards providing high quality places for people to live, work, and play -- not to house cars.

Remove the Parking Requirement for Downtown Development Projects

Parking lots shouldn't be required in an urban setting..especially, when trying to encourage on-street parking. Most people living downtown wouldn't have a need for parking..if they choose to walk to their destination..which, should also be encouraged to create more foot traffic.
