High Street Bluff Access Walking Path

Peoria, IL
High Street Bluff Access Walking Path
Description:

Provide a safe, lighted and developed walking path with access to downtown Peoria, the Riverfront, and the University of Illinois from the densest population neighborhood in Peoria.

This would make walking to downtown an attractive alternative to driving for events, shopping, or dining.

It would allow UICOMP students and residents safe and easy access to move between the bluff and downtown without needing to walk down Main Street, which is not conducive to walking because of the proximity of the sidewalks to the roadway.

This is a great idea! The path that has been worn at present is full of trees and has such potential. Right there, under asphalt remnants and debris are pristine Purington Pavers left over from the days when this was a brick street connecting High Street to State. Those pavers could easily be salvaged and put back to good use.

As an Upland resident, I've often wondered what would be a good, safe and interesting way to get downtown ...

As a resident of this neighborhood, I think this is a fantastic idea. I've been desperate for a more convenient way to walk downtown (specifically to 3030..) from my apartment. I also think a true lighted path will make the neighborhood safer and a maintained pedestrian walkway (with trash cans) may help reduce the amount of litter that piles up in this area.
