RiverFit

Peoria, IL
RiverFit
Description:

Develop a fitness trail along the west bank of the Illinois River including a hard-surfaced path wide enough for biking, rollerblading, running and walking (6" wide) that runs along the river, east of SW Water Street. This trial would include exercise stations such as pull-ups, chin-ups, step-up, sit-ups, squats, stretching, sprints, jump rope, and etcetera and includes different difficulty levels at each station. Examples of this concept include The Memphis Grizzlies Riverfront Fitness Trail.

Healthy living is a popular movement in the United States. This also brings people to an area who are not willing to pay for wellness center prices. While visiting in Cincinnati, OH a group of people and myself were walking along their riverfront and came across workout equipment, giant chess/checker boards and bench swings facing the river. It was a very relaxing area and of course we sampled the equipment. Another positive about the workout equipment; it's easy on the eye, often blends in with landscape and often encourages all ages to utilize the equipment.

Calisthenics are making a comeback with groups like Barstars. Fitness trails are very popular in other cities.

So where do we go from here? How do we make something like this happen?

I think this is a great idea. I’ve been looking for a calisthenics park around Peoria. I’ll support 100%.
